• Students can apply their experience with creative direction and large-scale projects to careers in public art commissions or urban design.

• The practice of "artistic identity" and style replication prepares students for roles in commercial illustration or concept art where they must adapt to specific client aesthetics.

• The collaborative mural project builds project management and teamwork skills necessary for high-impact professional environments such as creative agencies or architectural firms.

Course Competencies

Lessons 1–2: Portfolios & Matisse Setting up portfolios and exploring Henri Matisse. Students focus on bold shapes and the "cut-out" method to create a vibrant transcript.

Lessons 3–4: Van Gogh’s Texture Studying impasto and movement. Students replicate Van Gogh’s signature swirling brushstrokes and expressive use of colour.

Lessons 5–6: Kusama’s Patterns Diving into the world of dots and infinity. Students practice precision and repetition to create a transcript in the style of Yayoi Kusama.

Lessons 7–8: Kahlo’s Identity Analysing Frida Kahlo’s use of symbolism and portraiture. Students learn how to layer meaning and narrative through colour and specific imagery.

Lessons 9–10: 2D to 3D Transcripts Students select their favourite artist and begin sketching how that artist's 2D style would look on a 3D wooden object.

Lessons 11–12: Wooden Sculpture Construction A 2-lesson block using wood and mixed media. Students build their forms, focusing on translating painterly marks into physical textures.

Lessons 13–18: Large-Scale Collaboration Students work in small groups to design and execute a large-scale painting. They must choose one artist as their primary inspiration and work together to produce a final, high-impact masterpiece.
