The Classen Fifth Grade Academy is a school within a school. Academy students will attend English Language Arts and Math each day in order to advance through fifth and sixth grade curriculum to prepare for advanced course work in 6th through 8th grades. Science and Social Studies will follow the traditional AB schedule. Students will participate in a yearlong course of Physical Education, as required by state law. Each 9 weeks, students will also participate in an exploratory block that includes: Music Appreciation, Art, Drama, and IB. Our fifth grade students will enjoy many clubs and organizations, as well, while they learn and grow as middle school students.

Classen fifth-grade students are pre-majored, unlike our majored 6-8th grade Comets. All applicants to 5th grade will self-identify as a PRE-IB or PRE-VPA major. At the beginning of the 2025 calendar year, PRE-VPA students will learn more about the audition process. All students will have opportunities throughout the year to learn about all of the majors.
