Middle School & High School Piano Audition Guidelines

Classen SAS Mission Statement:

MS & HS (incoming 6th- 12th) Piano Audition Details:

Day/Date: 

• Tuesday, Feb 18, 2025 & Thursday, Feb 20, 2025

Time:

• You must sign up for an audition time at this link. 

• Auditions are from 4 PM-7 PM (both days). 

• Arrive ten (10) minutes early.

• Allow one (1) hour for the audition process.

Location: 

• CSAS MS, 1901 N. Ellison, OKC, OK, 73106, Piano Room A110

Point of Entry: 

• Front Doors (east doors - Ellison Ave entrance)

Parking Information: 

• Street parking and all parkings lots will be available.

How to Apply & What to Prepare Before Arrival:

CSAS General Application Requirements: 

• OKCPS Application Schools Website

Audition Requirements:

• 
  Perform a piano piece by memory. Please, no chord charts.

  • At least 16 measures long, with dynamic and articulation markings.

• Must provide the judges with four (4) copies of the notated music.

• Play scales, arpeggios, and chord progressions in two (2) different keys.

• The applicant may choose the keys.

• Sight read selections from the judge panel.

• Complete a written theory exam. 

  • This does count toward the audition. It helps with potential class placement.

• Bring a recommendation letter from your piano/music teacher.*

• Dress in business casual or semi-formal attire.* 

*Optional, but strongly encouraged.

Audition Tips:

• 
  Practice the audition in the order listed above three (3) days in a row. 

• Put everything you need to bring to the audition in a folder. 

• Dress up for the audition, and arrive ten (10) minutes early.

Judging Criteria (how applicants will be evaluated):

• 
  Technique

• Tempo

• Rhythm

• Pitch

• Dynamics 

• Articulations 

• Phrasing

• Balance

• Pedal (if applicable)

• Potential to complete the piano program

Additional Info:

• 
  Applicants audition at the middle school, even if they are applying for high school.

• These are closed auditions. Adults may return for pick up in one (1) hour.
