High School Band Audition Guidelines

High School Band Audition Details:

Day/Date: Tuesday, February 13, 2024

Time for Arrival: Mr. Barnes will reach out to you via email after you have completed the “Required Audition Request Form” below to confirm your audition time.

Location: Classen SAS High School, 3100 N. Kelley Ave, Band Room,  C10

Point of Entry: Main Entrance

Parking Information: Park in the West parking lot

How to Apply & What to Prepare Before Arrival:

CSAS General Application requirements: 

• OKCPS Applications Schools Website

• Required Audition Request Form

Band Specific Requirements: 

• Concert Bb Scale (one octave), the Concert F Scale (two octaves if possible).

• A solo or etude of your choice (1-2 minute section). You must bring 3 extra copies of your piece for judges.

• Sight-reading - you will be given 30 seconds to look over the sight-reading piece before you perform it.

Audition Tips:

• Applicants may wear casual/comfortable attire.  Your attire will not be part of our decision making criteria.  Playing auditions will be audio recorded for scoring at a later date.

• Practice sight-reading.  Remember, the best way to become a better sight reader is to PRACTICE sight reading.

  • A quick google search for “band sight-reading practice” will yield several helpful results

Judging Criteria (how your student will be evaluated):

• Tone quality

• Preparation

• Pitch

• Rhythm

• Dynamics

• Phrasing

• Breath support

• Sight-reading
