CSAS HS Guitar Audition Guidelines

MS (incoming 6-8th) Guitar Audition Details:

Day/Date: 

• Friday, February 16, 2024

Audition Timeframe: 

• 9am-12pm

Location: 

• CSAS MS, 1901 N. Ellison, OKC, OK, 73106 -  Room A118B

Point of Entry: 

• Front Doors (east doors - Ellison Ave entrance)

Parking Information: 

• Street parking and all parkings lots will be available.

Guitar Requirements: 

• Sign up using the link above.

• Two things need to be prepared by and performed on the day of the audition - a scale and a piece of music. Examples of a scale and piece of music are provided below, but these are not the only options.

  • A One-Octave Scale of your choice

    • C-Major Scale

  • One song, preferably in the Classical Guitar Style

    • Waltz in E Minor

PLEASE NOTE: Although the music provided here is in the form of guitar tablature, we at Classen SAS MS are a program that emphasizes traditional music literacy. If the above piece is chosen, please note that one of the goals of a Year 1 Guitar Major is to learn a piece of similar difficulty without tablature. 

Audition Guidelines:

What to expect: When you arrive, please take a seat in the hallway outside the door, unpack your guitar, tune to the best of your ability, and wait to be called. You will then be asked to play the scale and piece. Please expect the juror to work with you after playing. 

Audition Tips:

Get at least 8 hours of sleep the night before, eat a full breakfast, and consider taking a banana to snack on at the audition. Please know that nobody expects perfection - do the best you can.
