Google Meet

Google Meet is a videoconferencing platform that is great for you to be able to meet with students when we are virtual learning or even do parent/teacher interviews if that is easier for them.

Below are the steps of how to set up a Google Meet when we are virtual learning. There are links in each Google Classroom for it - but they are lengthy and expire. This means it doesn't make it as accessible to our families.

Click New meeting.

Click Create a meeting for later.

Copy only the meet link. The 10 digits after the initial link can help families connect.

Make sure that you are creating this link from your @ochieseeducation.ca email. Any emails outside of this link will have a limited time span that it allows for a Meet to occur.

When your Meet occurs, students will be put into a waiting room, where you will have to permit them to enter.

Here are the different features during a Google Meet.

When you end a call. Make sure that you say end the call for everyone. This stops students from being able to join and do inappropriate things.

Under the 3 dots are options.

You can open a Jamboard that students can collaborate on.

You can record the meeting and share it on Google Classroom if you are teaching a lesson.

Change layout allows you to play with how you see the others that have joined.

Apply visual effects is good for students if they don't want their peers seeing their background as it provides virtual backgrounds.
