Using the Laser Cutter

Laser cutting is a quick and accurate way of cutting out a range of materials so that they can be quickly fabricated. At school we have several laser cutters capable of cutting paper, acrylic and a number of other materials.

Depending on your interests there are a number of outcomes you can make using the laser cutter!

Using Inkscape you can make some key rings in lots of different ways and materials.

Depending on your character you can either:

  • make a layered character when you cut lots of the same 2D shape and glue together to make it 3D. by layering up 2mm cardboard to build up the model. This will likely take lots of experimentation.

OR

  • make more of a 3D toy and create a net that you join together with glue.

Using Inkscape you can make some stencils which can be used with paint or spray to replicate a pattern lots of times.

This could be used also to make into a stamp or printed onto material i.e. tote bag or shirt

To do this you are going to create the net of your character and then cut it on the Emblazer laser cutter in N9 using felt. Once cut you will sew it together and stuff.
