During the Fall 2021 semester, most NYU faculty returned to teaching in-person. In response to the pandemic, classrooms have undergone significant technology updates designed to support in-person and hybrid learning scenarios while reducing the technology footprint.
In the past, each classroom was setup with its own PC, dvd player, VHS player and additional processing equipment (not to mention a large tangle of wires, cables, and extension cords). Zoom Rooms designed to wirelessly support both face-to-face and hybrid teaching modalities, eliminate most of this infrastructure.
This video provides a glimpse of the new classroom technology and how faculty may use it for facilitating classroom instruction. Please note that the work on updating classrooms will continue this year to bring all classrooms to the same standard configuration.
The image on the right side of this page shows the standard Zoom Room setup at Silver: a tv monitor with the Zoom control panel positioned below it. Some rooms (eg: the Parlor) may incorporate an additional control device to activate the projector.
The main technologies that you can expect to find when you walk into an NYU Silver classroom include:
A projection system (either an overhead projector and pull down screen or a large television monitor. Both systems sync with the Zoom control panel.
A Zoom control panel: this is a small, flat device that is positioned sit at the front of the room, usually close to the main monitor. This device enables faculty to connect to the room's audio/visual equipment, and, if needed, enable remote participants to participate in the class session.

We ask that faculty bring their own device to share or present materials during class. Faculty can borrow a device from our IT office using this form on the day of their class session if they prefer.
