A hybrid class session means that an instructor can facilitate a live class session with students in a physical classroom space while zooming in remote guests or participants. Classrooms are equipped with technology that will enable remote participants to see the room participants and vice versa. The instructions below provide guidance for facilitating this.
Use the steps below to facilitate a hybrid meeting with students (and/or guests) joining remotely via Zoom and students present in the classroom. For visual instructions, click on the slide presentation to the right.
Log into your Brightspace course site through NYU Home.
Use the Zoom scheduler on your course site to schedule a meeting for your upcoming class.
Enter the meeting details and click save.
Share the meeting invitation with any remote participants.
Make a note of the meeting id. You'll need this to join the classroom technology to the meeting.
In the classroom, start the meeting from your on your computer by going to your course site, navigating to the Zoom page, and starting your meeting. (NOTE: Do not join with audio from your computer. Make sure your computer speakers are muted. Not doing these things will cause feedback.)
Remote guests (who aren't students) can use the Zoom link in the invitation you sent them to join the meeting from home. Students who may be joining from home can join the meeting from the course site Zoom page.
After you start the meeting from your computer, the next step is to connect the room system to the meeting so that remote participants can be seen and heard through the room a/v system. To connect the room,:
Click the Join button on the room's Zoom control panel. It's on the left side of the panel.
Enter the meeting id when prompted
Click the Join button on the number pad to connect.
At this point, the room system should connect to the meeting. As the meeting host, you control different aspects of the meeting on your computer such as the green "Share" button to share presentation materials with both your in-class and remote participants.
