Executive Director, CO/LAB Theatre Group
Are there any specific projects or performances you participated in that you are particularly proud of?
Reflecting on my extensive experience with commercial Broadway productions, public theatre, and presenting shows at NYU's Skirball Center over the past 7 years, I've had the privilege of engaging deeply with the arts through various roles, including collaborations with community partners and the university itself. Among these endeavors, certain projects or performances have resonated with me more profoundly, especially those that facilitated direct audience engagement and utilized theatre as a transformative tool for individuals and communities. I'm interested in sharing those experiences that stand out as particularly meaningful in my journey.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
My passion for theatre as a lively and interactive art form, combined with my belief in its power to drive change, has shaped my professional path, notably my role as the executive director of CO/LAB Theatre. This organization emphasizes empowering participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through theatre, advocating for their rights and fostering their abilities to speak up for themselves. Looking ahead, I'm curious about the future I envision for coLAB Theatre and myself, especially regarding expanding opportunities for actors with IDD and enhancing community engagement. How do I see the organization evolving, and what role do I anticipate playing in its growth over the next five years?
What advice would you give to other students?
Through my journey in theatre and my emphasis on the importance of discovering one's passion within the arts, I've gleaned insights into personal and professional fulfillment. Considering the advice I've cultivated about aligning personal passions with academic pursuits and the significance of working not just for monetary gain but for passion, I ponder the specific guidance I would offer students navigating their educational and career paths in theatre or any other field. How can they effectively identify and pursue their passions, particularly when it comes to selecting courses and engaging with opportunities that resonate deeply with their interests?
