Dance Education with a Concentration in ABT Pedagogy
Masters of Art, Class of 2025
1. Are there any specific projects or performances you participated in that you are particularly proud of?
Last year, I was a part of the Student Dance Education Association, which I found to be beneficial for honing leadership and communication skills. During this time, I volunteered for the 2nd Annual 2024 Sankofa Event held in the Education Department Studios. I experienced a strong sense of community, support, and gratitude that comes from creating space for, uplifting, and celebrating Black dancers.
This year, I am looking forward to choreographing for the Masters Concert which will be held on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 at Frederick Loewe Theatre at NYU. I invite you to all to come experience my New York City choreographic debut featuring music by Dan Deacon.
2. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself continuing my dance education journey by attending professional development conferences such as NDEO, teaching at pre-professional studios, offering private lessons and coaching, giving master classes, more choreographing, and collaborating with change makers in the industry to turn the needle toward a more equitable, inclusive, and forward thinking environment that encourages the health of the whole person - not just the dancer - physically, mentally and emotionally.
3. What advice would you give to other students?
The MPAP Dance Education Masters program is tough, but transformative; so dive in, make connections, do the work, and most importantly, be prepared to challenge your current belief systems. You will become a better teacher and person if you are open to feedback and reflection.
