Applying the above (re Tazria Metzorah, the parsha when YH occured) to the contemporary national scale:
Yom Ha'Atzma'ut
Soon will be Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, and we yearn for the rebuilding of the Temple and the closeness to God which accompanies it. But all that cannot happen until we fix what was broken, that which caused the exile in the first place. According to the Oral tradition, it was unkind words and rivalry and hatreds which caused the Romans to have the power to overcome us and burn the Temple, leading to ur present-day exile. Both naturally and metaphysically, the disunity which prevailed then led to our downfall, exile and the destruction of the temple. The Rabbis called it 'causeless hatred', but of course there is not really any such thing. So what did they mean? Presumably they meant hatred which was claimed to have a cause, but that cause was not valid; rivalry and bad-mouthing which takes place supposedly in the name of God and supposedly for 'holy reasons' but which is actually based on jealousy etc.
.
And so it seems almost obvious that what is needed to bring about the reverse of the exile, and destruction of the Temple - namely the ingathering of the exiles and the rebuilding of the Temple - is to overcome the temptation to say bad things about others or to be jealous and to create strife, etc. Especially when doing so for 'righteous' motives.
And since the cosmic effect of good actions and words is so much greater than the bad effect of bad ones, imagine the effect of the opposite of sin'as chinam, if we engage with others even those who we oppose ideologically but somehow manage to live together and not fight with each other, this will have a tremendous physical effect, to deter our external enemies, and also will bring an internal dynamic leading to the return of all Jews to our Land and to the rebuilding the Temple.
.
An example of the prevailing Orthodox approach involving belief in both physical and spiritual aspects and their interplay: when there is severe medical condition, one does a thourough survey of hospitals and doctors and outcomes and then a statistical analysis to find the most effective medical specialist and best hospital, and surgeons for any given issue, proactively contacts them and arranges for the fee to be paid, and then one prays that these doctors will have success, and that the medicines should be effective
So one can apply this combination-approach to many issues, for example to achieve the following two goals: 1. prevent external enemies of Israel from destroying it, and 2. to effectuate the relevant internal dynamic within Israeli and larger Jewish society to bring about the geulah. One can employ a combination of spiritual and natural effects, and see 1. as being achieved partially via achieving 2. And I believe that this is the challenge of building the modern state of Israel, to find ways for the Jewish People to coexist in their land despite all their ideological and religious differences - It seems to m that God has promised that if we suceed in this challenge, then the divinely-arranged effect will be that we will be successful in all the physical natural aspects: iewe'll be able to create a strong and ethical military which can ward off our enemies without needing to make war, and instead we will find that our inner strengths shared communally amonst the Jewish People bring peace, and as a result of our innner-self-development we will find that God has assisted us in growing the economy to bring prosperity, developing technology to help struggling nations overcome issues of clean drinking-water supplies, increasing their agricultural output, medical advances which benefit all etc, and in bringing in the rest of the Jewish People back to the land, and eventually rebuilding the Temple, with the joyful assistance of our neighbors and others.
And surely any nation which will excel in brotherly-kindness, and making peace, and bringing prosperity to others, and which will worship together in a Temple open to all ("and my home will be a place of worship for all nations), can be a light unto all.
And internally also: imagine affect of opposite of sin'at chinam, if we engage with other Jews - even those who we oppose ideologially - but somehow we manage to live together and not fight with each ther, this will have a tremendous physical effect -for metaphysical reasons as outlined above, but also for natural reasons of the effec tof unity of purpose - and together with creating an effective, determined, dedicated and ethical army it will deter or deeat our external enemeies, and also will bring an internal dynamic leading to the return of all Jews to our Land and to the rebuildinginf the Temple.
May we be strong enough in our resolve to overcome tendencies which lead to strife rather than harmony, even when these actions of ours seems to us to be motivated by our ostensible desire for 'holiness', and to trust that if we act to our Jewish brothers with kindness rather than holiness-inspired violence God will ensure that events proceed in the right direction, towards the promised harmony of all nations and abundance for all, with the opportunity of having 'God's presence dwell within us', as is meant to be in the Temple.
