All students are expected to keep an organized binder for this course. Please have three sections in your binder: Notes, Homework, and Classwork. Be sure your notes section has plenty of lined paper!
Calculators will be distributed within the first two months of school. Please be sure to read the calculator agreement form when it is sent home.
If you have headphones/earbuds, please bring them with you to class! Headphones are used for tutorials from the book, bell ringer videos, and sometimes for music during independent classwork!
You MUST do your homework in order to be successful; this independent practice is how we lock in the math concepts learned in class. Homework will be given and checked almost daily. All work does not need to be correct, but an honest effort must be obvious. Homework must be completed on time to receive credit.
Taking notes is NOT an option. You are expected to take notes along with examples from class. These notes are to be kept in your binder. The notes and the examples contained within them, will be helpful when attempting to complete homework assignments and study for tests and quizzes.
Students who miss class for any reason should check the “Absent" bin upon their return to find out what was covered during your absence. You are responsible for copying notes from a classmate when you miss class as well as completing any work that was left in the folder for you. After checking the center and copying notes, it is your responsibility to see the teacher to follow up and discuss missed notes and assignments. If you have questions on missed material be sure to see Mrs. Rice ASAP.
If you are in school and miss class for an appointment, early dismissal, late arrival, band or chorus please check-in with your teacher before or after class to get missed work on that same day.
You will have a cumulative end of course assessment that will be used for placement the following year.
Homework will be checked daily for completion. Each assignment is worth 2 points. Students can earn a zero, one, or two. Homework falls into the Independent Work category.
IXLs will typically be assigned weekly. Specific IXL skills are assigned on Mondays and due the following Sunday, however, always check the homework page to confirm due dates and what skills must be completed! To receive full credit, students must earn a smart score of 80 or higher. There will be opportunities to earn extra credit on some skills if you reach a score of 100.
Assessments will be worth 60% of the student's grade. The assessment category will include tests, quizzes, and projects.
Quizzes are given to assess one or more topics within a unit. Quizzes will be announced several days in advance.
Tests will be given after a unit. Tests will always be announced several days before they are given and we will always review before the test.
Projects may be incorporated throughout the year. General information and requirements for each project will be distributed in advance.
Class Work Score The class work category will be used for many miscellaneous items. Some of these items include activities completed in class, group/partner work, graded bell ringers, and exit tickets. The class work score is worth 30% of the quarterly grade.
