Grading Procedures

Grades aren't everything, but they can help you and I to find areas where we can work to help you grow as a student. In Language Arts, there are a few categories that will make up your grade. They are ALL important.

  • Assessments-- 45%

    • These assignments typically come at the end of a bigger unit (i.e. Argumentative Writing, Story Elements, etc.). They include tests, quizzes, projects, and processed writing assignments. They will always be given with ample notice and time in class to either work on the assignment or to study for the test or quiz. We will work together to make sure you are more than prepared to demonstrate your knowledge!

  • Classwork -- 35%

    • This category is comprised of in-class assignments. Most will be graded for accuracy however there may occasionally be an assignment graded for completion. These assignments will be done primarily in class, however should you run out of time in class, you might need to finish them at home. These assignments will help you to learn and practice the concepts and ideas we are working on in class.

  • Independent Work-- 20%

    • Assignments that fall into this category include homework assignments as well as your Reading Journal (due weekly unless otherwise noted). Homework is any assignment that is completed entirely (or near entirely) at home.

Put together, these grades don't give us the whole picture of who you are as a student but they can be a good way for us to see what we can do to help you grow as a Language Arts student. Make sure you are checking your grades via Parent Portal and reflecting on them so we can help you succeed!
