Junior Reserves Officers' Training Corps

JROTC is a federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in secondary schools.  The mission of JROTC is to instill the values of citizenship and leadership, service to the United States, and personal. Students are given the opportunity to apply leadership, communication skills, and teamwork in competitions and presentations. The Student Activities Office sponsors a drill meet,  and a physical fitness competition.

Super Bowl LVIII Color Guard Visits CCSD JROTC Programs

On February 8, 2024 the Joint Armed Forces Color Guard, in town to present Colors at the Super Bowl, came to visit CCSD JROTC cadets at Sierra Vista HS and Bonanza HS. The Joint Armed Forces Color Guard provided a demonstration, question and answer session, and a workshop for the cadets.

Space Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

Durango High School is officially one of just ten schools nationally to be named a Space Force JROTC. An activation ceremony was held November 2, 2021 to commemorate the designation. Cadets received lapel pins at the ceremony.
