Track & Field Distance Coach
Coach David started running when he joined his middle school cross country team. Growing up in Santa Rosa, he fell in love with running long distances and exploring trails throughout Northern California. In high school, he specialized in the 1600m and 3200m and ran local road races like the Santa Rosa half marathon and the Kenwood Footrace in the summer.
David ran division III cross country and track and field at Colorado College, setting personal records of 15:09 in the 5K and 32:24 in the 10K. He also served as the team’s captain for 3 consecutive years and represented cross country athletes on the school’s student athlete advisory committee. After graduating college, David moved to the east coast to pursue cancer research at the NIH, where he trained on his own during the first years of the pandemic. He moved back to the Bay Area to work at UCSF in 2021.
After moving to San Francisco, David joined West Valley Track Club and began competing in road marathons, setting a personal best time of 2:28:24 (5:40 mins/mile) at the 2022 Chicago marathon. He plans to continue competing in road marathons in the coming years!
David is in his second year as a science teacher in Nueva’s upper school and is thrilled to be coaching the track & field team this season. David is beyond excited to work with young runners as they set out to achieve new goals.
