"The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
The MYP is a five-year programme, which can be implemented in a partnership between schools, or in several abbreviated (two, three or four year) formats. Students who complete the MYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Career-related Programme (CP)."- The International Baccalaureate
Research shows that students participating in the MYP:
build confidence in managing their own learning
learn by doing, connecting the classroom to the larger world
outperform non-IB students in critical academic skills
consistently have greater success in IB Diploma Programme examinations
thrive in positive school cultures where they are engaged and motivated to excel
develop an understanding of global challenges and a commitment to act as responsible citizens.
The MYP was revised in September 2014 to provide a more rigorous and highly flexible framework that powerfully integrates with local educational requirements. (IBO 2020)
The MYP at Nova is broken into 8 subject groups. Students in MYP 1-3 take all 8. MYP 4 and 5 are required to take 6 of the 8 subjects groups. English Language and Literature is mandatory. Macedonian or Albanian are mandatory for citizens.

The MYP philosophy of teaching and learning posits that students learn best when that learning is connected to the world around them. Each unit of study in the MYP is connected to a global context that answers the question "Why do I need to know this?" The six global contexts are:
identities and relationships
personal and cultural expression
orientations in space and time
scientific and technical innovation
fairness and development
globalization and sustainability.
The MYP has identified 16 key concepts that help students reach understandings beyond the subject areas and connect to the global contexts.

Each year of the MYP students will engage in a minimum of one interdisciplinary learning experience. This experience will involve two or more subject groups and be assessed using the Interdisciplinary Learning Criteria and will be reported on the report card.
Service as Action (SAS) is an integral part of the MYP experience. In MYP 1-3 SAS is embedded into the curriculum. MYP 4 and 5 complete SAS portfolios.
Nova International Schools teachers embrace the MYP philosophy of teaching within contexts. The Global Contexts and Key and Related Concepts are integrated into unit plans as well as the summative assessments. All units are clearly linked to the ATL (Approaches to Teaching and Learning). Teachers utilize multiple approaches to engage students in high quality inquiry based learning. They also provide direct instruction on the approaches to learning; teaching students explicit skills to access learning.
