Music Technology and Careers in the Fine Arts

Course Description: Students enrolled in this course will learn about different technologies used in the music field. This includes recording with microphones, using mixers, and apps used in music production. Students will be exposed to different career options in the fine arts. This includes many behind the scenes careers and knowledge of how to obtain those careers.
Health

Course Description: Health Education provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to maintain health and wellness throughout their lifetime. The intent of a comprehensive health education program is to motivate students to improve their health, prevent disease, and avoid or reduce health related risk behaviors. The following topics are covered in health in accordance with Ohio law: nutrition, the reproductive system, sexually transmitted diseases, dating violence, alcohol, illegal drugs, and tobacco.

Design & Modeling

Course Description: Students apply the design process to solve problems and understand the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. Using software, students create a virtual image of their designs to showcase their innovative solutions.
Art

Course Description: Students create three large projects within a Student-Choice classroom. Students choose the media they will work with and the subject matter they will make art about. Among the media students have the chance to experiment with are: soft and oil pastels, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, acrylic paint, watercolor, digital art, stop-motion movies, digital photography, linoleum cut, and gelli plate. Students will also learn vocabulary and will be introduced to the Studio Habits of Mind. The Studio Habits of Mind identify 8 ways in which professional artists think and work: Develop Craft, Engage and Persist, Envision, Express, Observe, Reflect, Stretch and Explore, and Understand Art Worlds. There are two art shows each year. One in February with work from 1st and 2nd quarter students, and one in May with work from 3rd and 4th quarter students. Each art show has an “opening reception” and hangs in the building for a few weeks.
Movement & Wellness

Course Description: In this class, students will learn healthy habits to attain better physical and mental health outcomes. The movement aspect incorporates traditional PE activities and with an emphasis on inclusiveness and good sportsmanship. The wellness aspect incorporates lessons on healthy relationships, core values and coping skills. This course also includes guest speakers from the community, discussing strategies to thrive in middle school and in life.

This career exploration experience focuses on four main areas, the construction trades, electrical, welding and engineering. The construction trades are concentrated in the residential construction area, while the engineering specialties lie in design and fabrication.
Intro to Spanish

Course Description: In this class we will be skimming through the basics of Spanish. This includes the alphabet, introductions, greetings, colors, numbers, weather expressions and days of the week. This class will serve as an exploratory way to become familiar with the language and cultures. Our focus will be on reading, writing, listening and speaking when applicable in the target language.
