With social media, teenage hormones, and a lack of healthy coping skills, many students are feeling sad, with nowhere to go for help. If you notice these signs and symptoms in yourself or in a friend, please talk to your parents or to your school counselor for guidance on where to seek support.
Signs and symptoms of depression:
Deep sadness and/or hopelessness
Long-lasting irritability, inappropriate and frequent anger or rage
Sudden or unusual changes in behavior, personality, appearance
Withdrawal or isolation from friends, family, or activities
Major changes in sleeping/eating habits, extreme weight loss/gain
Marked change in energy, motivation, concentration, anxiety
Frequent absences from school or a drastic drop in grades
Increased physical complaints (ie: headaches, stomach-aches, nausea)
Alcohol, drug abuse, and other self-destructive behaviors
Thoughts and/or talk of death or suicide, running away
