Writing assignments range from constructing complete sentences early in the year to writing competent argumentative, expository, and narrative paragraphs as students progress. The State Standards will be the main focus of the curriculum, starting with a grade level mentor text. The curriculum for this course is based on the Ohio State Standards.

Gifted ELA Resource Room

Prerequisites for Course: Gifted Identification in Reading, Creative Thinking, or Superior Cognitive
Course Description: The gifted reading class serves students identified as gifted in reading, creative thinking, or superior cognitive ability and is taught by a gifted intervention specialist. In this multi-age class, students will read one whole class novel to use as a model text for reading and writing assignments. Throughout the rest of the year, the class will include: choice, critical thinking, and communication and collaboration. Students will be given choices in their reading and writing assignments. These assignments will be completed both independently and in small groups. Students develop their critical thinking skills especially in their writing assignments with a focus on solving real world problems. Students will improve communication and collaboration skills through the use of different peer critique and self-assessment methods.The curriculum for this course is based on the Ohio State Standards.
