Welcome to Heist-eria! This fun game involves acting, drawing, and puzzles for you and a partner to complete a heist. Upon entering the game, you must complete a task in each room and bring the keys you earned to the vault in the center. Good luck and we hope you have fun!
Approximate Time to Set Up: 30min - 1.5 hrs
Arduino Board: 15-30 min
AutoCAD Board 5 min
Physical Board: 45-60 min
Advice for Quicker Set Up:

If players are online or would rather play a digital version of the game, skip this section.
Dedicate people to print and cut out the materials, while somebody sets up the arduino. Splitting the tasks can cut the set up time in half. Only one gameboard and one Arduino is needed.
Print out and locate all the materials before setting anything up. Make sure to separate the drawing and acting cards so they don’t get mixed up. I would write an ‘A’ on the top right of the acting sheets and a ‘D’ on the top right of the drawing sheets.
Simply tape the board pieces together based on the set up information below. Don’t waste time cutting anything unless you want to trim up the bottom three pieces.
One cutter can place both acting sheets on top of each other and cut the cards out. The other cutter can do the same with the drawing cards. Once the two piles are there, label each card with and ‘A’ or a ‘D’ depending on which pile it belongs to. This way they don’t get mixed up if an accident happens.
If you are going to use the AutoCAD board instead of the physical board, you can skip all the physical set ups: Card, Robber, and Board. The download link for the board is at the bottom along with a Quizlet link to the cards. Use Quizlet to randomize the cards for the players entering an acting or drawing room. To do so click on the acting or drawing stack. Then click flashcards. Finally, click shuffle, and click on the card to reveal what you need to act or draw.
The physical set up is if you have a lot of time and would like to play on a physical board with friends and family.
Required Materials:
*The board and robber sheet can be constructed out of (8.5x11’’) paper or laser cut cardboard*
*Anything marked with a '*' is only needed to make a physical version of the game*
9 Board Pieces (Bottom of website)*
Acting and Drawing Cards (Bottom of Website)*
Printed/Cut Out Robber sheet (Robber Set Up)*
Pen and Paper for personal use*
Tape/Stapler*
Scissors*
One Spark Fun Kit
Laptop w/camera
AutoCAD (If using online board)
Timer
Find the Cards Sheet
Write a “D” on the back of each drawing card, and an “A” on the back of each acting card.
Use the scissors to cut out the cards along the line
Place them in two separate piles face down and draw from them when you reach their respective rooms.
There is also an option to use a Quizlet model of the cards in which you shuffle the terms
Or, if you are playing virtually, you can use the loink for the quizlet, and hit the flashcard option to shuffle the cards.
Find the Robber Sheet
Use the scissors to cut out each Robber
Depending on your printer, color or mark each robber in pairs for the 4 different teams
If you are using the cardboard cutout, insert each robber into a stand
If you are using paper, fold the robber’s feet and attach a folded piece of tape (acting as double sided tape) to the bottom
Find the 9 board pieces
The pieces will join together to create a (3x3) piece square
The pieces connect left to right in ascending order, and move down a row every three pieces
Connect the pieces with a stapler or tape
Pieces 1-9 correlate with the pdf pages
Arduino Setup:
Only one Arduino is needed for this game! (Unless players are not in the same room)
Use the wiring diagram below to connect arduino components to the arduino
Copy and paste the code provided at the bottom of the website into the Arduino program and upload it to the Arduino board
Gameplay: 1 hour
Starting the Heist:
The game works best with an even number of players from 4-8 where players form pairs, although it is possible for one player to play two robbers.
Start by placing robbers on their matching colored spaces
Each player rolls a dice (Use a number generator 1-10)
The highest roll goes first
The game proceeds in a clockwise direction based on the robbers on the board
General Rules:
To place your robber, roll a dice and move that number of spaces towards your destination
Upon reaching a room (meaning the robber must be on a square inside the room), refer to the room’s task, and attempt to complete it on that same turn
After successfully gaining your key, you must deposit it into the vault (by entering it) before attempting a task in another room
If a robber fails to complete a task, they will earn no key, and must leave their current room and head towards another one
Multiple teams can be in the same room
Room rules are further explained below
The Acting Room:
Acting Rooms are the rooms with the stage and two masks
Select one card from the acting card pile
Set a timer for one minute
Make sure the camera is pointing at you if you are remote, so your teammate can see you
Act out the word on the card
If your partner correctly guesses the word on the card within the one minute time frame, you earn a key for the acting room.
The Drawing Room:
Drawing rooms are the rooms with the painting boards
Select one card from the drawing card pile
Set a timer for one minute
Make sure the camera is pointing at your drawing if you are remote, so your teammate can see it
Draw the word you read from the card
If your partner correctly guesses the word on the card within the one minute time frame, you earn a key for the drawing room
The Puzzle Room:
Puzzle rooms are the rooms with the puzzle pieces on the table
Turn on the arduino and follow the instructions on the screen to begin
The arduino will randomize a set of three colors
There are four colors which correspond with the buttons on the arduino
The randomized set of colors can contain any of the four colors, and there can also be repeated colors in the set
It is your job to guess the set of three colors through trial and error
After inputting your guess of three colors, the lcd screen will print how many of the colors were in the right spot
You will have seven attempts to guess the set
If the puzzle is solved in the appropriate time, the arduino will display you have earned a key
If you fail, the arduino will display so, and you must move to another room
Completing the Heist:
The team that first drops off SIX keys (TWO of each room) in the vault at the center completes the heist and wins!
It’s more fun if each player collects one of each key, so they can each experience both sides of a room. However, it is allowed for a single teammate to earn repeated keys.
(there are no physical keys, try to keep track and use your imagination!)
An Added Twist (optional):
To add difficulty to earning a key, all players have the opportunity to type a specified word or character in the Zoom chat.
The players may make a guess based on the order that they type in the word.
If an opposing team guesses the correct word first, the team in the room loses their chance to gain a key in this round.
