MATERIALS
For game setup, you will need…
Glue, Cardboard, Paper, Scissors, Sparkfun Inventors Kit
CARD SETUP
Print out the PDF with the name of your chosen god
*Make sure your printer is set up to flip on the short edge*
Cut out and shuffle your god's cards
CHARIOT RACE SETUP
Print both PDF documents in the Chariot Race Tracks section (no need to cut these out).
GAME PIECE SETUP
Cut out the game piece and the circle on the pdf with your game board
Glue both pieces to cardboard and cut the cardboard to the shape of the pieces
Cut the slit in the circle to be the thickness of your chosen cardboard
Insert the tab on the game piece into the slit on the circle base
GAME BOARD SETUP
Cut out the game board from the printed-out PDF.
Glue the cut-out game board onto cardboard
Cut the cardboard to be the shape of the glued-on paper
If you are on a time crunch, feel free to use the paper game board without the cardboard, and any small object lying around as your game piece
ARDUINO SETUP
If playing virtually, each player must have their own Arduino setup. If playing in person, there must be two Arduino setups available. The game uses a Simon game set up. The wiring diagram and Arduino code are below. Arrange your Sparkfun Inventors Kit to match the wiring diagram and paste the provided code into Arduino on your computer. You should now have a fully functioning Simon game.
OBJECTIVE
You have been thrown from Mount Olympus by some freak accident and so have all the other Gods. You want to be the first back to the top because you know it will give you the right to be the leader. Your goal is to face adversaries, collect relics and defeat your fellow Gods on the way to the top of Mount Olympus.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Place your game piece on the first stage and draw four cards from your draw pile.
TYPES OF CARDS
Ally cards - have a point value and rarity. Can be used to defeat adversaries
Adversary cards - have a point value and rarity. Are defeated by allies
Relic cards - Each have an element type (water, fire, earth, wind). Also have abilities such as avoiding a challenge, weakening adversaries, or strengthening allies
Action - have either a negative or positive action below the card description
HOW TO PLAY
On your turn you can perform any two acts. Acts include...
Draw a card
Defeat an adversary
Challenge an opponent
Play an action card
Move up a stage
Any act may be completed twice in a row as your turn
DRAW A CARD
Simply draw a card from your draw pile
*If you draw an action card that requires you discard a card, you must play that card immediately as part of the draw a card action*
PLAY AN ACTION CARD
Play an action card in your hand and immediately perform the action on the bottom of the card. Actions that require discarding a card must be played upon being drawn.
CHALLENGE AN OPPONENT
Challenge an opponent to one of three mini games...
Simon Says
Challenge an opponent to a game of Simon on the Arduino breadboard. Press any of the four colored buttons to begin. The board will display a sequence of colors on the LED lights, starting with 1 color in the first round to 8 colors in the last round. After the sequence is complete, repeat the sequence by pressing the corresponding colored buttons on the Arduino. If you incorrectly input the color sequence, you will hear a failure tone, and must restart the game. The first to complete a full game of Simon (8 rounds) wins the challenge.
Chariot Race
Begin by agreeing on a racing track from the sheets provided and find a chariot (any pen or pencil will do, preferably a stiff one).
Taking turns, beginning with the player who initiated the challenge, each player will make a move by applying pressure to the pencil until it slides on the paper, leaving a mark in the direction that you want to go. You are not allowed to continue holding down the pencil/pen and guiding it while it slides, it must be a single movement. (You might want to hold down the paper with your opposite hand to prevent it from slipping)
After both players have made their move, you must mark the point at which the pencil/pen left ends. This will be your start point for the next turn. If you go through a wall, the trail ends where the trail meets the wall!
This will continue until one player has reached the finish line. In the event that both players reach the finish line within the same turn, the victory will go to the challenger, as they went first.
A video example of the chariot race is available in the "Chariot Race Tracks" section below
*If you are challenged to use a track you used earlier in the game, you can re-use the same paper. If you used pencil, feel free to erase the marks from the previous challenge, however this is not necessary.*
Ultimate Tic Tac Toe
This game is similar to the well-known tic tac toe, except with a twist. This version of tic tac toe is using a 4x4 grid instead of a 3x3 grid. If you are playing virtually, open the google slides document attached in the "Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe" section below and follow the rules in the presentation. If you are playing the game in person, draw a 4x4 grid on a spare piece of paper and play according to the following rules.
Each player chooses which mark they will use (X or O). Players then take turns drawing a mark in the space they desire (with the challenger going first). You win the game by having four marks in a row, either diagonally, horizontally, or vertically, or by having four marks in a square pattern where all of the marks are touching.
In either version, if all of the squares are filled and neither player has achieved one of these patterns, nobody wins the challenge and play continues.
*If the opponent you challenge has a relic card which allows them to avoid the challenge, they discard that card, and your turn is over.*
*A player can challenge any opponent, regardless of what stage the opposing player is on*
*In games of more than 2 players you cannot challenge the same opponent twice in a row*
DEFEAT AN ADVERSARY
Use an ally card (or collection of ally cards) in your hand to defeat an adversary in your hand. The point value of the combined ally cards must be greater than the point value of the adversary card. In the case of a tie, the adversary wins. Relics can also be used to either strengthen an ally or weaken an adversary based on the point value on the card.
MOVE UP A STAGE
Moving up a stage counts as one of your two acts you can perform on a turn. Each stage has a different requirement to surpass it:
Stage 1 - Defeat 2 adversaries
Stage 2 - Win 1 challenge
Stage 3 - Collect 3 different types of relic cards
Stage 4 - Win 2 challenges
Stage 5 - Defeat either 2 rare or 1 epic adversary
All cards used to move up a stage must be discarded when that stage is passed. If a player is challenged by another player while they are in a stage that requires winning a challenge, and they win that challenge, they can count that win as progress towards moving up.
*Dropping three relic cards and moving up a stage counts as one combined act*
*Actions from earlier stages do not carry over into later stages. For example, if you defeat a rare adversary in stage 1, you cannot use that defeat towards your progress in stage 5. If you win a challenge in stage 3, you cannot use that win towards your progress in stage 4*
WINNING THE GAME
The first player to move through all 5 stages and make it to Mount Olympus wins the game
