Fall/Early Winter 2022 Highlights

The Holiday Gift Drive for Youth Services was a HUGE success. Together, the staff and students from Northbrook Junior High was able to donate almost $600 worth of gift cards, as well as about 50 blankets and many, many more toys and family treats. The holidays are sure to be a little brighter for some families because of our generosity.

Annual Holiday Box of Joy Collection!

In December of 2021, Builders Club collected “Boxes of Holiday Joy” from NBJH students, staff and parents. Over 40 boxes and bags of blankets and small gifts had been collected, as well as over $1,645 in cash and gift cards. The generosity of the NBJH community is always amazing! Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook will distribute the items to needy families in our area.

Youth Activation Summit ~ Nov. 2021

From the SOILL Website:

Youth Leadership and Advocacy is one of the essential “legs” on which Unified Champion Schools stands. Nobody understands the thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and ideals of young people better than other young people. And when young people care about something, when they perceive a reality that needs changing, they bring unparalleled energy and creativity to achieving their goals. They are hungry to lead; they just need the opportunity. Unified Champion Schools is designed with a primary goal to engage youth as leaders, to give youth a voice in their schools, and to provide youth with and opportunities to become advocates for themselves and their peers. For youth with and without intellectual disabilities who are directly involved, those are leadership lessons that stay with them for life.

Northbrook Junior High was a Kahoot Champion during the Youth Activation Summit!

ROCK N RESPECT WEEK PROMO

The Inclusion Revolution, Rock 'N' Respect Week and the "Pack the Place" event

This campaign started in February, culminated with a fun event in late April, and will hopefully have a lasting impact on NBJH Students for years to come! The campaign and events were mostly student planned and managed. We shared the mission Special Olympics Unified Schools: To empower youth and educators to be leaders of change. By playing and learning we will create a more inclusive world. The pictures and video below will give you a feel for what we accomplished as a Unified School!

Thank you to the the Glenview/Northbrook Kiwanis Club for championing our efforts!

Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than 550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80 countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance.

2018 Fall/Winter Highlights

Northbrook Junior High has chosen Cradles to Crayons to be our "Charity of Choice" for the 2018-2019 school year. Student Council has hosted some amazing fundraisers, and they've donated X dollars to Cradles to Crayons thus far! Click here for more info about Cradles to Crayons! ----->

Our first project this year was a new or gently used book collection! "Book and Treat" coincided with Halloween fun!

The 2018 Holiday Gift Drive! A big Thank YOU to all students and staff members who supported the 2018 Holiday Gift drive! NBJH Students and Staff purchased over 40 gifts for children in need. With our help, The Glenview / Northbrook Youth Services ensured that over 90 families had a brighter holiday season this year!

During the late winter of 2019, we made over 40 cozy blankets for the "Blanketed by Love" Charity. Blankets were distributed to those in need of comfort or warmth. We're sure these baskets, and the accompanying cards brightened some folks' days!
