February 5  Week 23

This Week's News

Our Valentine’s Day celebration will take place on Friday, February 16th from 1:15-2:00 p.m.

In preparation for that day, students are able to bring paper valentines for their classmates.  To make the process a little easier, we ask that students do not address the valentines but only fill in the “from” section with their own name.  Please make sure they bring one for each student in the class.

**No valentine boxes will be needed.  We will be making valentine bags in class that day that will hold their valentines.  We are providing the white paper bags.

*If any parents would like to donate stickers or markers to decorate them, we would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

Our Character Focus for February is Kindness

This week we will continue to discuss languages like descriptive, literal and figurative. We will think about the author's craft by noticing the special meaning the author wants us to get from that language.

Social Studies:

This week in Social Studies, we will learn about different types of climates and how they effect how people live.  In Daily Geography, we will have a grade on a weather map.

Writing Workshop:

In writing, we will continue our Poetry unit by practicing writing feelings into our poems and discussing writing from different points of view.

Phonics/Grammar:

This week we will continue practicing looking at the syllables in words to help us read and write them.   In Grammar talks we will be learning about adverbs that convey place.

Math Workshop:

This week, our mathematicians will continue lessons in Module 8.  We will continue practicing different strategies, including the number line to help us solve subtraction with regrouping. Towards the end of the week, we will begin working on the division strategy, regrouping.
