Our Character Focus for March is Cooperation!

This week we are learning about:

Reading Workshop:

This week we will recognize characteristics of persuasive texts by reading and analyzing the text carefully. We will determine the author's message of a persuasive text by identifying the claim and evidence used to support the claim.

Social Studies:

This week in Social Studies we will discuss how communication, transportation, and technology has improved over time. In daily geography, we will review using directions on a map.

Writing Workshop:

In writing, we will be learning about the different parts of a letter and working on drafting, revising, and publishing a letter. We will get to participate in a fun pen pal activity with another 2nd grade class.

Phonics/Grammar:

This week, we are talking about capitalizing letter greetings and closings in Grammar. In Phonics, we will learn how to use the long vowel O and U when spelling bigger words.

Math Workshop:

This week, we will complete the last few lessons in Module 9. These lessons will cover counting money, including identifying coins and their value, counting and comparing amounts, determining which coins to use when paying for items. Our module 9 summmative will be next Tuesday, March 5. There is a review attached

On Tuesday and Wednesday next week, we will review for our CBA that will cover Modules 7-9.  We will take the CBA on Thursday, March 7.  You can find review questions linked below that can be used for additional practice.

Parent Newsletter-back

These videos is helpful for parents to watch so that you can see how it is being taught during class.  We will cover this concept this week!  Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions.

Science:

We will begin our unit over plants. This week students will observe the growth of seeds trying to survive in different conditions, learn about the different parts of a plant, how seeds travel, and what all plants need in order to survive.

OUTDOOR LEARNING CENTER VISIT

2nd grade will be visiting the NISD Outdoor Learning Center on March 21st. Please continue to check your student's yellow folder for permission slips, lunch count, and volunteer forms to sign and return. These 3 forms will be sent home Monday, February 12th.

All forms sent home must be signed, completed and returned to your students teacher by February 28th.

An email regarding parent volunteers was sent out by the 2nd grade team on Friday, February 9th. Below is the link sent to us by the front office with the steps to obtain the required district background check and campus volunteer 101.  If you are not wanting to be part of the volunteer process, you do not have to return the volunteer form.

Lunches are required for this visit. We are sending home a form to be completed to let us know if your student will be bringing a sack lunch or if they will need a sack lunch provided for them from the cafeteria. A sack lunch from the cafeteria will include a sun butter and jelly sandwich, a fruit/vegetable, and a milk.

Rules for Success at the OLC:

Dress Code

We have a strict dress code at the OLC. This dress code helps reduce the potential of sun damage, plant irritation and/or insect bites.

We will continue to keep you all updated with expectations and reminders as we get closer to the day of. We are so excited to expand our learning outside of the classroom, and appreciate your support!
