Delivering research
The NIHR’s Principal Investigator Pipeline Programme (PIPP) aims to address some of the current gaps in career opportunities for research delivery nurses and midwives by supporting them to become Principal Investigators (PIs) to deliver NIHR portfolio studies.
The NIHR Associate PI Scheme aims to develop health and care professionals to become the Principal Investigators (PIs) of the future.

Training in delivering research
Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training is the international gold standard for people supporting clinical research deliver. In the NHS, it is essential training for those supporting Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).
The Royal College of Physicians has developed a Research in Practice course which covers getting involved in clinical research in the NHS; working with investigational medicines, language and process inherent in clinical trials and the wider applicability to populations, public health and prevention.
Training in developing research
The Queens Nursing Institute has a range of bitesize online training masterclasses which cover a raft of topics including appraising research papers; qualitative and qualitative data analysis, working with underserved communities, developing an academic career.
