NHS services come under increased pressure in winter, with effects on general practice, emergency care, and inpatient services. The burden on general practice is intense but little explored, and there is incomplete understanding of the downstream impacts of these pressures on patient health. Interruptions to routine care can cause major collateral health impacts, as demonstrated by the Covid pandemic. We want to understand how and why general practices in the UK come under pressure at different times of the year. We’re especially interested in your own view of what’s happening in your practice. We will use survey results to help identify practices experiencing unusual pressure, whether this varies over time, and whether there are socioeconomic inequalities in the experiences of pressure. Findings will also help develop ways to best support practices under unusually high pressure.
