CRN East Midlands Primary Care Conference

We would like to invite you to join us for our second CRN East Midlands Primary Care Conference.

Our Primary Care research conference provides an opportunity for Research Practitioners and those new to research from across the East Midlands to come together as a community to share ideas and best practice, and to hear about new developments and exciting initiatives including activity to increase the range of settings involved in research delivery. The event will cover the wider context of Primary Care as a setting for research, the role of Integrated Care Systems, and the need to ensure that research is diverse and inclusive.

With sessions led by experts from across Primary Care including NIHR, the Royal College of GPs and Iqvia, this is an excellent opportunity to understand more about the challenges faced and new opportunities presented as we emerge from the pandemic. Topics to be explored on the day include:

  • research within care homes

  • the set-up and delivery of trials within Primary Care

  • giving research participants a voice and an opportunity to shape research

  • the delivery of commercial research

A full agenda can be found here.

The conference will take place on Wednesday 6 April 2022, Nottingham, 8.45am to 3.30pm at Trent Vineyard, Lenton Lane, Nottingham, NG7 2PX. Please note this is a face to face event.

Please register your interest to attend via Eventbrite using the link below. In order to help us plan the event, we would be grateful if you could please register at the earliest convenience.

Learn Join Dementia Research Tool

The NIHR has launched a new Learn Join Dementia Research Awareness Tool. This is a great resource to enable all health and social care staff to understand what JDR is and how to support their patients and members of the public to take part.

Click here or go to the Join Dementia Research website (Professionals / Healthcare section) to find the learn tool.

We produce a quarterly newsletter that gives readers information about what is happening in primary care research across each of the counties in the East Midlands.

Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)

Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) is delighted to announce that we are now able to work with practices using TPP SystmOne software. CPRD is funded by NIHR and the MHRA: we work to enable public health research and medicines safety and are keen more practices join the 68 already taking part in our work.

CPRD has been working with practices for over 30 years, enabling over 2,800 clinical improvements. These include proving the safety of the whooping cough vaccination in pregnancy, updated guidelines for Type 2 Diabetes management, and currently we are monitoring the real world safety of the various COVID vaccinations. To keep making improvements, and represent your patients in guidelines and research, please fill out the short form at www.cprd.com/joiningform

Taking part in CPRD does not stop you participating in any other studies or trials – we’re keen you do as much research as possible. However participating in CPRD does not add to your workload – once enabled in your system we collect clinical codes and prescribing data with no further work required for the practice. There’s no software to install and no impact on your IT.

Practices who participate also receive free, confidential and bespoke prescribing safety reports, saving the practice time and helping towards PCN DES specifications. For more information and to see a sample, please visit https://cprd.com/generalpractitioner/QualityImprovementProject.asp

CPRD can supply BMA approved DPIA and Article 30 template entries. Taking part is GDPR compliant and CPRD receives annual ethics approval for our operations. For more information, please visit www.cprd.com/generalpractitioner or email gpnetwork@mhra.gov.uk
