Request a new subdomain

Before requesting a new subdomain, please ensure you have:

1. read and understood the Acceptable Use Policy

2. identified the owner of the subdomain. They will be responsible for the on-going adherence to the subdomain user agreement.

3. answers to these questions:

• Will the subdomain be internally or externally facing?

• Will the subdomain be using NIHR funded infrastructure?

• Do you currently own a hosted subdomain? 

• What URL do you want and does it follow the standard website naming convention?

Standard subdomain naming convention

The URL you request should follow the standard subdomain naming conventions:

National remit

www.[name].nihr.ac.uk

Eg. www.io.nihr.ac.uk 

Regional or specialist remit

www.[name].nihr.ac.uk

You can abbreviate the region or specialism.

Eg. www.rds-nw.nihr.ac.uk or www.clahrc-nwc.nihr.ac.uk 

Please follow these guidelines or your application will be rejected.

Request new subdomain via ServiceNow

Log in to ServiceNow then go to:

• 'Request Something'

• Scroll down on 'All Request Items' and click 'Show More Items'

• Select 'New Sub Domain Request'

You will be asked to accept the NIHR website user agreement as part of this process.

What happens after you submit your application

We usually review applications within 2 weeks and will notify the designated site owner when a decision has been made.
