Quarter 4- About to Paint our Masks
Acrylic painting, learning to work in steps from the background to the foreground. Also, learning some paint mixing techniques like wet on wet blending, dry brushing to add values and details.
The focus on this project was to get the kids using their own creativity. The task was to take a photo reference of a cute animal and make it creepy. We talked about creating a mood and what elements could make it more creepy such as texture and new features such as extra eyes, clouded eyes, longer teeth or tongues, scales instead of feathers, adding spikes or horns et cetera.
We talked a lot about style and how Mr. Burton wasn't afraid to be different. He was an animator for Disney at one point, but his work was deemed too creepy and scary for kids. -Look at him now.
Students learned to shade and create value.
