Week ending:

Friday 3rd May 2024

Dear Families,

What a great end to the week we have had by celebrating all the colours of the rainbow and coming to school dressed in as many bright colours as we could. The children have learnt about the artist Monet and created thier own piece of art work inspired by him.

Have a lovely long bank holidays weekend

Best wishes from Miss Lowin and the Nursery Team

Colour mixing

We have been learning about primary and secondary colours and also tints! Our children have enjoyed lots of activities related to this topic. It has been great to watch them exploring colour mixing independently and also learning to make tints by adding white. It was such fun to make a colour wheel in our class teams!

Our Book this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

The children really loved this book and loved speaking about the colours and how they related to the emotions the Colour Monster felt.

"What did the Colour Monster look like in the beginning before the little girl helped him?"

"What are some of the emotions the Colour Monster felt?"

"Have you felt any of these emotions before?"

"Can you remember which colours went with each emotion?"

Our Words this week

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

What is the name we give to these three colours?

Close your eyes. What are the three primary colours?

Can you think of some things that are these colours?

What is the name of the colours you get when you mix two primary colours together?

Can you name these three colours?

How do make orange? Purple? Green?

What do you add to a colour to make a tint?

What happens to the colour as you add more and more white?

What is another word for create?

What did you create at Nursery this year?

Who created the paintings which have lots of circles inside each other?

What did you use at Nursery this week to create your artwork?

Where do we put out artwork to show others at Nursery?

Our Maths Learning this week

This week we continued to compare 2 groups of objects using the words "more" and "less" or "fewer" using a quick glance. Some of us began to count out these objects and work out how many more or fewer/less a group had compared to the other group.

If your child is going to Reception in September, we are encouraging them to make marks to show their mathematical finding be it pictures, symbols or numbers.

We found some lovely songs about one more and one less to sing along to.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love the see them!

The Colour Monster

Make you own colour monster using different resources. Pick an emotion or a colour and make your monster! Or how about making the whole set!

Colour wheel

Can you make your own colour wheel? Colour/mix/collage your colours and once it is ready, find objects that match the colours!

Noticeboard

Do you have any unwanted pot plants, watering cans or other gardening equipment lurking in any dark corners?

We would love to have them for our Growing Things: Plants topic!
