Week ending:

Friday 26th April 2024

Dear Families,

What a great week of Colour Mixing! This week was a week of colours! We have learnt some rather tricky words which we will be reinforcing next week again.  The children have really enjoyed our very hands-on Colours topic and are becoming really good at remembering which two primary colours to use to mix the secondary colours.

Have a lovely weekend

Best wishes from Miss Lowin and the Nursery Team

Our Book this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

"Which three colours were there in the beginning?"

"Why did they decide to live in different neighbourhoods?"

"What happened to make the colours live together again and mix beautiful new colours?"

"Which new colours did they make?"

Our Words this week

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

What is your favourite colour?

How many colours can you name?

Can you find out the names of some colours that you didn't know before eg. teal?

Can you name these three colours?

What is the name we give to these three colours?

Can you think of some things that are these colours?

What could you use to mix paint?

What happen to the paint if you mix it with a different colour?

What is the name of the colours you get when you mix two primary colours together?  Can you name these three colours?

How do make orange? Purple? Green?

Our Maths Learning this week

This week we continued to compare 2 groups of objects using the words "more" and "less" or "fewer" using a quick glance. Some of us began to count out these objects and work out how many more or fewer/less a group had compared to the other group.

If your child is going to Reception in September, we are encouraging them to make marks to show their mathematical finding be it pictures, symbols or numbers.

We found some lovely songs about one more and one less to sing along to.

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love the see them!

Colour collections

Go around your house or when you're out-and-about and collect coloured items eg. socks, leaves, flowers, toothbrushes.  Sort them into groups of the same colour.

Colour binoculars/telescope

Use a toilet or kitchen roll innards and coloured cellophane to make a telescope or binoculars.
