Week ending:

Friday 14th June 2024

Dear Families

Welcome back for our last half term of the year and with the best weather to come! (Hopefully...) The children have all been very excited to be introduced to our Farm Animals topic and know a lot about the animals already. We have therefore been challenging them to think about where on the farm these animals like to stay at night or move around in. For those children who did this topic last year, we are extending their knowledge by practising how to describe these different places on the farm with more colourful language.

Next week, we will be continuing our Farm Animals topic by looking at what the babies of farm animals are called and linking this to what we know about life-cycles already.

Just a reminder that we have Sports Day on Wednesday 19th June at Hackney Downs. Nursery will be closed for the day!

Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Best wishes from the Nursery Team

We are reading The Little Red Hen as our Traditional Tale. Please read different versions of it to your child as often as you can.

This version is a little longer...and rather humorous!

Our Book this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

What animals leave on a farm?

What noises do the different animals make?

Phonics

This week we started some phonics with those children who will be going to Reception in September. You might hear the children talking about Fred so we would like to introduce Fred Talk to you.

We also started looking at the pictures that go with the letters they will learn in Reception during the Read Write Inc. programme.

Our Words this week

We have learnt the words below this week. Can you ask your child the suggested questions to encourage them to use the words in a sentence?

Name the babies of these farm animals:

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love the see them!

Make 5 chicks out of egg-box segments or toilet rolls for counting activities.

Make a chicken coop

Use your chicks to play a composition game. If here are 3 chicks in the coop, how many chicks are outside of the coop?
