Week ending:

Friday 22nd March 2024

Dear Families,

We have continued our learning on Life Cycles topic with our book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which the children really love! We have begun to look at the different stages of the butterfly life-cycle. We have completed a range of caterpillar themed activities including drawing butterflies, making representations of the life cycle of a butterfly and The very hungry caterpillar story telling hats.

A gentle reminder that next Wednesday 27th March will be the last session of nursery for the afternoon children. Morning children will finish on Thursday 28th March and full- time children will finish at 2pm.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Best wishes from the Nursery Team

The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

The children enjoyed listening to the story  'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children have made the life cycle of a butterfly using pasta shapes. They have also been able to retell the story of The very hungry caterpillar by creating a story telling hat.

Our Book this week

Click on the picture below to listen to the story with your child, then ask them the suggested questions.

"What comes out of the egg?"

"Can you tell me what the caterpillar eats in the story? What should caterpillars eat?"

"Can you name some healthy food and some food that are not so healthy?"

Where could we find a chrysalis?

Which creatures do you know that hatch from an egg?

What do caterpillars do most of the time?

Are all caterpillars the same? Can you research the different caterpillars?

Our Maths Words

Can you find some bottles and jugs to explore capacity at bath time or outside this weekend?

Activities to try at home this weekend

Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love the see them!

Coats

As the weather gets progressively colder and wetter, we ask you to please make sure your child brings a coat to school. Again, PLEASE label all your child's clothing, especially school uniform. You can purchase a relatively cheap permanent laundry marker from Amazon.

If your child is still finding it tricky to put their coat on independently, how about trying the above "Dip and Flip" method? Please encourage your child to be as independent as possible.

Any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call the school office on 0207 254 1415 or email via swoffice@newwavefederation.co.uk
