When a student leaves Jefferson Elementary for the middle school, they will be empathetic, respectful, intelligent students ready for their next adventure. Jefferson graduates will have self awareness to identify their own emotions, strengths, and weaknesses. Learners will have the skills to manage and control their emotions in order to overcome adversity and be the best student they can be. Upon leaving Jefferson, children will have the social awareness to recognize and respect differences across individuals, families, and cultures. Students graduating from Jefferson will have the ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships through clear communication and conflict resolution skills. Our graduates will be critical thinkers ready to learn and grow at the next level.
Students have the opportunity to earn Eagle SOAR tickets while at Jefferson Elementary. These tickets are given out for meeting school expectations in the areas of self-control, on-task, accountable, and respect. Students save up tickets to purchase prizes at the SOAR Store on Friday mornings. Tickets are also collected to work towards all school rewards. In addition, "Caught You SOARing" awards are given out to students in acknowledgment of behavior going above and beyond expectations.
Jefferson Elementary promotes 10 Core Skills, which are adapted from the Boys Town Educational Model. Each week classrooms focus on a different Core Skill, with students viewing a video on Monday and staff emphasizing the focus skill throughout the week school wide.
If a student is struggling with one or more skills, parents and teachers will work together to provide additional behavioral interventions to support the student in their social emotional growth.
Jefferson Elementary utilizes a color-coded five-point scale model adopted from "The Incredible Five Point Scale" behavior curriculum to categorize student behaviors. The scale visual helps translate Jefferson's behavioral expectations into a language that elementary students can understand. In addition, having common behavioral language helps promote consistency across different settings within our school building.
