IPP

June - Students evaluate and report their IPP progress and provide a year end summary.  Teacher provides a transition plan.

April - May - Students will be continuing to work on their personal goals and review their progress.

March - Spring Update

February - Students will be continuing to work on their personal goals and review their progress.

December/January - Students are working on personal IPP goals.

November/December - IPPs will commence and students are to work on identifying their goals and benchmarks.

October/November - IPP documents need to signed and return to homeroom teacher and/or IPP supervisor

October - Students complete Executive Functioning Work Habits and Strategies.  Teachers review IPP information.  

September - Parent and students input forms to be completed.  At the junior high level students are greatly involved in managing their goals and updating progress with teacher's guidance.

Students learn about What is Executive Functioning? Complete a metacognitive survey on their executive functioning skills.

About Teacher

Mrs. L-B has been working at NHS for about 10 years, she started as a substitute teacher, covered two maternity leaves and now focuses at the Junior High level.  She has a passion in the culinary arts.

Option A - Bread and Puff Pastry

This is a condensed option course. Takes place all-day from  Mon. June 1st to Wed. June 3rd.

Day One - Prepare yeast breads. Step 1 for puff pastry dough lamination process.

Day Two - Bake yeast breads, braided bread and make soup bread bowls. Step 2 of puff pastry lamination process.

Day Three - Make quick breads/flat breads and curry accompaniment. Step 3 puff pastry make danish fillings/bake and bake danish pastry.

Option B - Entrepreneurship

March - Junior Achievement Company program to facilitate in creating an innovative prototype.

Students are working on their business media profile.

Option C - Foodies Unite Competition

March - June - Students work on mastering their cooking skills in weekly competitions.  These challenges will have focus theme where people are united around food. Students will also learn how to appraise food quality, judge food presentation and inspect food handling and safety.

Table Top Escape

February/March - Students are developing and creating the own Table Top Escape device.

January - BreakoutEDU- Students are learning to develop an original online breakout game.

December - Students are exploring Breakout EDU and will be building our first Escape room challenge "The Curse of the Gingerbread Man"

Entrepreneurship

February/March - Students will begin the Junior Achievement Program to facilitate creating an innovative prototype.

January - Hot Lunch Initiative - Student groups are brainstorming on lunch menu items that caters to healthy, appealing to teenager taste buds and cost effective.

December - Business Strategist designing a business model and reviewing sources of income.

November/December - With the help of E&I Fair, we are able to sell our winter festive centrepieces.

We will continue to sell our centerpieces at the Wholly Handmade Event at Festival Place on Dec 14th and 15th and at NHS Christmas Concert Dec 17th

Students are working on business planning task for a client.

Food Art

February/March - 3D Animal Cake Decorating

February - Students will be creating fruits and veggie garnishes, cute bento boxes etc.

January - We are working on different renditions of roll cakes, learning to create fruit/veggies garnishes and preparing the 25th 

December - We are working with royal icing for gingerbread house village and advent calendar cookies.

*Students new to foods at the junior high level must complete the AB Safety test and print out a copy of the certificate.

November - We have been busy with production, finalizing our sell dates and advertising.  We now have a new logo for our Nighthawks Nest Corporation.

October - Our corporation 'Nighthawks Nest' will be working on our 'Arbour Arrangements' material donations/ production/ advertisement/ sales.

September - Building upon the idea of what is entrepreneurship and what is involved when running a business?

Working on creating a business to build profit for funding group project prototypes materials.

Option C - Term 1 

Test Kitchen 

November -Students continue with their test trials and will be preparing presentations for their best two trials.

October - Students begin their Bingo Challenge test trials, to be completed in 5 consecutive weeks.

September - Through a series of demonstrations by Mrs. L-B, students explore and review  different kitchen appliances and gadgets.
