When you get to secondary school one of the things we ask you to work towards is achieving pledges. These are activities that help you to get more involved with the school and your community along with helping you to get some new experiences. There are 10 pledges that we ask you to work towards and you’ll find out a lot more about these when you get to school in September.
Pledge 1: Regularly attend an after Academy activity
Pledge 2: Represent the Academy in a sporting, cultural or academic event
Pledge 3: Take part in an Outward Bound residential programme
Pledge 4: Attend a national sporting, academic or cultural event
Pledge 5: Take part in an Academy production or event
Pledge 6: Take part in a formal presentation to an audience
Pledge 7: Be actively involved in an international experience
Pledge 8: Be actively involved in a community experience
Pledge 9: Participate in a fundraising event in the Academy
Pledge 10: Help with the sustainability of the Academy
Lots of these you already need to be at the academy to do but there are a few that you can have a go at now to get a head-start for when you arrive in September.
Pledge 4: Attend a national sporting, academic or cultural event. This is any experience that involves people/places in other parts of the country.
Pledge 7: Be actively involved in an international experience. This is any experience that involves people/places from another country. This is a particularly challenging one to get at the moment so we have come up with a ‘lockdown’ alternative:
Cook a meal from a country of your choice, go on a virtual tour of that country's top tourist destinations, then using Duolingo or other language learning tool learn to say Hello, Goodbye and Thank You in that language.
Pledge 8: Be actively involved in a community experience. This is any experience that you have been a part of in your community (something you have helped with not just attended).
When you get to school in September you can show any evidence (photos/documents/tickets etc…) to your tutor and they will be recorded.
