Performing Arts

In Drama we cover a range of topics such as key skills, Shakespeare, Melodrama and Pantomime, Script work, Devising, Matilda and many more.

We learn about performing for an audience and how we can use our body language, facial expressions and voice to bring a performance together as well as learning about creating drama from scratch and being creative.

You will learn key skills such as teamwork, communication, time management and focus. These skills are what we call ‘transferable’ and you will find that you are able to use them in all the subjects you study.

Bridging work for Y6

Find or create a poem that you would be willing to share with the class when you begin in September.

• Firstly, think about learning the poem off by heart. This means you can read it aloud without using a script/the poem in front of you.

• Next think about how you use your voice. Where will you pause? What will the volume of your voice be like? What is the emotion of the poem and how will you communicate this through your voice?

• And lastly, think about how you will move when you perform the poem. Will you stand still? And if so, why? Will you use body language and facial expressions to help enhance the poem?
