This chart outlines a basic structure of how PHS employees are organized. It is not a traditional organizational chart, a hierarchy with leadership at the top and framed as who is "over" whom and who "reports" to whom. This traditional model is common in bureaucratic organizations, often viewed as a pyramid with leadership at the top, supported by a mass of subordinates at the bottom.
PHS is a professional organization, in contrast to a bureaucratic organization. In our model, leadership supports the professional work of the other employees, and everyone supports the work of the teachers and students as the primary mission of our institution. This chart gives every employee a clear picture of who to talk to for support on any given subject or program.
Our organization can be seen as an inverted pyramid, where the professional and expert work of the employees at the top is supported by the leadership at the narrower bottom of the pyramid.
Each Monday the administration sends a Monday Morning Memo to the faculty and staff at Payson High. This is a quick way to communicate important information to everyone on campus. Because these memos have been happening for years, teachers feel supported organizationally, and we are able to limit the need for meetings and know at a glance if there are any disruptions to the schedule, and the need to modify lesson plans in support of the teaching and learning in classrooms. Here are two sample Monday Morning Memos.
At the beginning of each year, administrators implement an operation process and procedure by distributing an updated bell schedule to each teacher and to all parents in the form of emails, a designated page on the school website, and flyers and posters to teachers. This information ensures and supports effective teaching and learning, as it informs daily and unit lesson planning by allowing teachers, parents, and students to know how long each class will be on a given day, based on the events of the day.
Each Wednesday the administration sends a Mid-week Motivation email to faculty and staff at Payson High. This is a quick way to communicate to the faculty that they are important to the administration, that leadership is aware the teachers are working hard, and to give a personalized-for-this-faculty moment of motivation. Here are four sample Mid-Week Motivation emails.
Each Monday, Nebo District has early release for teacher collaboration. The operation process and procedure for these Monday meetings differs for each Monday. For example, the second Monday of each month is designated as a District Collaboration, when teachers in special education, CTE, fine arts, media specialists and others throughout the district meet and share best practices. In order to ensure these Mondays are used in an organized and effective manner, administration sends out an email asking employees to account for their time and location each week. Attached you will find an example of the weekly email.
