Living with WILDLIFE & controlling VARMINTS

How to mitigate the damage some of these animals or insects can inflict on our ornamental and edible plants and how to coexist and garden successfully with the wildlife in our midst is a growing issue in the Piedmont region - especially in urban areas like Charlotte NC.

We are not alone. With the increased pressure of human development on our wildlife populations due to loss of habitat, many of our native species are more frequently seen in our suburban and urban landscapes. Deer, rabbits, raccoons, and other animals are common visitors to many NC Piedmont yards. There are even new species like coyotes entering our region filling a predator role left vacant by the demise of wolves and foxes in our area.  Many articles here by former Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Dave Molinaro take a humorous yet educational look at wildlife in the garden.
