In our third workshop, we will focus on the importance of knowing where you experience stress in your body.
Don't forget to complete your Gratitude Journal this week. You can complete the online Gratitude Journal OR print the gratitude journal document at the bottom of Workshop #2.
Let's start today by watching the "What is Stress?" video below.
Everyone's response to stress can look differently. Sometimes we can have physical reactions to stress, such as having a stomach ache, headache, and/or sweaty palms. Our brains can also react to stress, such as having racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, and/or worries about the future.
When your body and/or mind is sending you signals of feeling stressed, such as the ones mentioned above and in the video, it can be helpful to use present moment attention and breathing strategies to manage these feelings!
We ask that you now practice the body scan activity posted below. Body scans help us recognize and release tension in our bodies. This is a great strategy to use before bed, especially if you are having difficulty falling asleep!
Did you find any areas of tension or stress during the body scan? Were you surprised by any tension you recognized during the activity?
Why is it important to know where you experience stress in your body?
Present moment attention helps us become aware of our body's reaction to stress based on how we are feeling in that exact moment. If we know how our bodies react to stress, we will be better able to identify when we are feeling stressed and what strategies can help relieve us of that stress.
Using the print out below, identify where on your body you experience stress by drawing, circling, or coloring those areas.
Were you surprised by your response(s)? Think about how you can use this information the next time your body sends you one of these signals.
For our final activity today, walk along the beach using the guided visualization posted below to help you fall asleep tonight. You can either watch the video by clicking this link or have someone read it to you.
