Workshop #2
Welcome to Workshop #2!
In our second workshop, we will introduce and discuss present moment attention.
We also want to introduce Gratitude Journals - more on this below! We hope that everyone will complete one per lesson. Although not mandatory, if you would like to share, we would love to hear what went well in today's lesson and what you are grateful for by completing this online gratitude journal!
Present Moment Attention
Review the present moment attention definition posted below.
How would you describe it in your own words? Try describing to your family what present moment attention means to you.
Attention to Thoughts Practice
Remember: It is important to try to use present moment attention to be aware of your feelings and the situations that lead to them. Listen to the recording below and practice being in the present moment by focusing on your breath.
Reflect on this activity and ask yourself: Did my mind wander? If so, was I able to bring my attention back to my breath?
Hot Chocolate Breathing Exercise
Try the "Hot Chocolate Breathing" exercise below. It is a fun and tasty breathing strategy for a cold, rainy, or snowy day!
Gratitude Journals
Why is it important to use a gratitude journal? How can keeping a gratitude journal be helpful?
Brains are primed for negativity, meaning that we tend to focus on the things that are not going well, which can lead to stress
Focusing on the positive, and the things we are grateful for, can help us reduce stress
As the weeks go on, we will focus on being detailed about the things we are grateful for, as this will have the greatest effect
**Please fill out this gratitude journal each week. We have an online Google Form that you can fill out OR there is a document that you can print below.
