A community of practice in digital-age learning culture is one that is comprised of learners or educators who have a shared interest(s) or responsibility in an academic field or pursuit. Within this community of practice, they use digital technology resources to communicate, work, share, strive, and improve upon pre-obtained knowledge or achievements.

One example of how one might integrate emerging online technologies (LMS) to develop and disseminate a model of local and global Cop and support implementation through local computing/digital infrastructure and policies is by designing Professional Development courses that will be mandatory for educators as technology grows and permeates increasing aspects of education. Such Professional Development courses will be accessed in LMS specifically for teachers to be provided with information on how to access existing or create new CoPs depending on what they may personally desire or require for professional growth. Resources that will support me as a leader of digital CoP are websites such as hivebrite which is “A powerful online community platform, Hivebrite provides top organizations with all the tools they need to build, manage, and engage their community.” Another noteworthy resource is howdo.com, an advantageous training source for building a community of practice from the ground up. Additionally, I plan to use resources such as design principles and best practices, as depicted by unescap.org, seen here:

Digital citizenship means being responsible for all aspects of the digital life of those I influence, teach, or whose digital life I contribute to. This includes promoting digital equity and doing all in my power to facilitate equitable access to digital tools and resources. It also includes teaching others how to acquire the necessities for providing digital equity in their institutions. Another responsibility of digital citizenship is being ethical and safe when interacting, sharing, or obtaining information via the internet. Digital citizenship promotes abiding by rules and policies set in place for the security of its users. Additionally, digital citizenship is significant in teaching students about netiquette and cyberbullying. We must teach young people that the internet is not a free-for-all and must be utilized safely and responsibly. Further, digital citizenship means being conscious and cognitive of cultural diversity and global awareness and having the know-how to perpetuate this understanding onto colleagues, students, and future generations, as they come into a world far more digitized than at any point in history.

We often witness interactions occurring online that would be far less likely to occur in person. How we would react differently online vs. in person is a social experiment I would present to others for their consideration.
