Once you have enrolled, you can collect your student ID card and receive your initial password. (see Information Systems – Password). All you need is money to pay the charge for the card issue (if you want an ISIC licence along with it – see below) and a certificate of study that the Department of Student Affairs officials will give you at registration. You will be photographed at the centre.
You can choose between a standard card and a card with an ISIC licence. The standard card is free of charge. The card with the ISIC licence costs CZK 320 (a year). The licence can be renewed each year by purchasing a validation stamp, which remains valid until the end of the respective calendar year. The stamp can be purchased at issuing centres or online.
The validation stamp is no longer issued as a physical sticker. Instead, it is available only in electronic form via the Alive App. Complete information, including instructions on how to download the app and activate your account, can be found at Alive App.
You can use both cards the same way – for identification purposes at the University, to pay for your lunches in the canteens, when borrowing books from libraries, and for buying tickets on the Prague Integrated Transport System. The advantage of the card with the ISIC licence is that you can make use of various discounts and student benefits in the Czech Republic and abroad. You can find all the discounts and benefits at isic.cz. The card that includes the ISIC licence can also be used as a student’s international ID.
If you later decide to upgrade your standard student ID card to an ISIC card, a replacement fee of CZK 520 will apply. If you no longer wish to renew your ISIC licence, simply do not renew it. The card can still be used as a standard student ID card; however, without a valid ISIC licence, it may not be used to claim ISIC benefits and discounts.
Different fees apply in the event of a lost card and the issuance of a replacement. A replacement ISIC card costs CZK 520, while a replacement standard student ID card costs CZK 200. Any loss of a card must be reported as soon as possible using the form available at Charles University – Card Loss Reporting Form. CU ID Cards - Charles University
Non-functioning cards that are not physically damaged can be replaced free of charge at any issuing centre. Card replacement is also free of charge when personal details change, for example in the case of a name change.
