You can use facilities managed by CIT for computer work. As a general rule, classrooms are primarily intended for instructor-led teaching (there is usually little or no space available for independent work outside scheduled classes), while study rooms are designed for your free time and individual study, typically with all-day access. The current classroom schedule can be found in the Study Information System, and the opening hours of study rooms follow the operating hours of the respective branch libraries.
The study rooms are equipped with the same software as the PUA and B5 classrooms. Most of the software used in teaching is installed in the study rooms as well. When using these facilities, please comply with Dean’s Measure No. 4/2016, which defines the rules for the use of faculty computing equipment.
Computer Labs (primarily intended for teaching):
Albertov 6:
PUA (20 PCs, basement, left side, room S01)
K2 (18 PCs, 3rd floor)
Z2 and Z3 (22 and 29 PCs respectively, 4th floor)
Viničná 7:
B5 (19 PCs, 1st floor, right side)
Computer Study Rooms (for Independent Work):
Albertov 6:
“Tower” Study Room (25 PCs, 4th floor)
Geology Library (8 PCs, ground floor)
Viničná 7:
Biology Library (17 PCs, 1st floor)
Hlavova 8:
Chemistry Library (8 PCs, basement)
Additional library study rooms:
Geography Library (2 PCs, 2nd floor)
Institute for Environmental Studies (ÚŽP) and Botany Library (4 PCs each, Benátská 2)
Login: Use your Faculty username (e.g., novak3). The system also accepts the email format (novak3@natur.cuni.cz). Your personal ID number and any aliases cannot be used for logging in.
Password: Use your current CAS password. If you are unable to log in, check that Caps Lock, Num Lock, and the keyboard layout are set correctly. After 10 unsuccessful login attempts, your account will be locked for 30 minutes.
Terminals: In the PUA and B5 computer labs and in the study rooms, you may encounter terminals. These are not standard PCs with a local C: drive, but virtual workstations. Once you log out, the virtual computer is deleted. Therefore, always save your files either to the J: network drive or to your own USB flash drive.
Logging out: When you finish your work, you must always log out (Start > Shut Down > Log Off). If no one else will be using the computer after you, please shut it down completely.
J: Drive (personal storage): You have a dedicated storage space for your work (200 MB; 400 MB for Geography students). The drive is accessible from any terminal on the Faculty network.
T: Drive (shared storage): This drive is intended for quick file sharing among users within the Faculty network. Data stored here is deleted regularly, so do not use it for files you wish to keep.
S: and V: Drives: These drives are used for study materials, according to the instructions provided by your instructors.
Temporary storage: Temporary data may also be stored on the local (non-backed-up) drives of computers (available only in computer labs with PCs), on your own storage devices, or in cloud storage services.
Self-service printing and copying services (A4/A3, black-and-white and color) are available in the Faculty libraries (Biology, Geology, Geography, and Chemistry). The system used is called MyQ.
To print, you need your student ID card/ISIC and sufficient credit in your MyQ account, which is created automatically together with your Faculty login.
When you finish your studies, do not forget to use up or withdraw any remaining credit in your account. Three months after the end of your studies, the account is deleted and any remaining balance is forfeited.
You can add funds to your account using the payment kiosks or through the library administrators. Detailed information can be found in the separate section Printing Services.
Check the “Computer Labs and Study Rooms” section on the CIT website – you will find guides and instructions for the most common tasks there.
A lab administrator is available in the A6 Tower Study Room and can assist you with basic issues.
