What are Pre-College Programs?

Pre-College Programs are programs that Inderkum High School has partnered with to provide additional services to students and families, above and beyond what students already have access to from the Counseling Program.  These Pre-College Programs are able to provide more targeted services to certain populations of students that would benefit most from the additional support.  Please see below for our programs and get in touch with a Counselor or our College & Career Specialist if interested.

Upward Bound

The Upward Bound (UB) program is offered as part of a collaboration with American River College.  Upward Bound is a project to help students prepare for college while in high school.  The program supports student throughout their high school years with advising, parent support, trips, a six-week summer program, and one Saturday academy per month with workshops/trips/activities/events etc.  All services are FREE!!

Students that are interested are encouraged to download the application or email it to mjuarez@arc.losrios.edu

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT)

Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) was founded in 2013 with the mission to increase the number of young men of color (YMOC) to attend and graduate from colleges and universities.  Their programming, services, and 12-year commitment produce outcomes that are making young men more likely to meet requirements, graduate, and pursue their passion.

Counselors can refer students to IYT for mentoring, academic tutoring, and other services while attending Inderkum High School.

United College Action Network (UCAN)

The United College Action Network (U-CAN) was founded in 1988 and provides leadership services and college preparation assistance to students desiring to enroll in a two or four-year college or university (with an emphasis on Historically Black Colleges or Universities, also known as HBCUs).  UCAN also assist students who desire to attend UC’s, CSU’s, Community Colleges, career-based organizations (trade schools) and military/armed forces endeavors.

California Student Opportunity and Access Program (CAL-SOAP)

The California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP) was established by the state legislature in 1978.  Today, Cal-SOAP is instrumental in improving the flow of information about postsecondary education and financial aid while raising the achievement levels of low-income, elementary and secondary school students or geographic regions with documented low-eligibility or college participation rates, and who are first in their families to attend college.  Some common services provided by Cal-SOAP include advising, tutoring, parent outreach, and college awareness workshops. Students should speak to our College and Career Counselor, Ms. Ana Garcia, to learn more about participating in this program.

Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP)

Created in 1976, the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) primarily serves students who are the first in their family to go to college or who are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged.  EAOP connects UC Davis with K-12 schools and the community.  The program provides information about college entrance requirements, how to apply, what happens when you arrive and how to pay for a college education.  EAOP is a free program!  Students should speak to our College and Career Counselor, Ms. Ana Garcia, to learn more about participating in this program.
