CTE Pathways

At Inderkum High School, students are able to begin our CTE Pathway courses as early as their 10th grade year in order to be Pathway completers by their senior year of school.  We offer 3 CTE Pathway programs onsite at Inderkum High School as well as 2 CTE Pathway programs that students can take at Discovery High School and Natomas High School (with transportation included to/from the alternate site).  Please see below for details for each of the programs available.

Broadcast Media

Our Broadcast Media Pathway offers students the opportunity to develop communication skills, technical expertise (including how to work with video cameras and editing software) and reporting skills.  The class produces a school student newscast called "Tiger Talk."  Students are introduced to real-world newsroom tools and practice news writing, research and collaboration.  The three levels of coursework included in this pathway are shown below.  Levels 2 and 3 of the pathway have college credit articulation with Consumnes River College giving students to earn college credits while attending Inderkum.  Click on the Tiger Talk Logo for more detail on the Broadcast Media Pathway program.

Public Safety - Law Enforcement OR Fire Technology

In partnership with the Sacramento Police Department and the Sacramento Fire Department, the Public Safety Pathways is designed to provide a rigorous academic program and career preparation for those interested in Law Enforcement and Firefighting related fields.  Each distinct path begins with an introductory course to gain information in all careers in the Public Service industry before making a decision between Law Enforcement or Firefighting.  See below for the series of courses you will take as part of each program.  Ideally, students will begin the introductory course in 10th grade to allow for completion of all three courses by senior year.

Cosmetology (@ Discovery High School)

The Cosmetology Pathway provides students with foundational knowledge in cosmetology and barbering skills.  Students gain skills in manicuring, skincare, cutting, coloring, fading, and scalp treatment.  Students who complete the pathway will be eligible to enter into the Natomas Cosmetology School to work towards their Cosmetology or Barbering license.

Students can begin the introductory course in 11th grade with a modified 6th period in order to attend class from 3-5pm every Monday, Wednesday and alternating Friday.  Students are picked up on these days at 2:45pm and arrive back to Inderkum at 5:15pm.  Students earn 10 credits each semester for a total of 20 credits for the year from this program.

Year two students are placed on a modified 5th and 6th period schedule and are transported to the program during school hours so they are back by the end of the school day.

Construction Technology (@ Natomas High School)

The Building and Construction Trades Pathway is designed to provide a rigorous academic program and career preparation for students interested in any construction-related field.  It gives students the opportunity to learn applied mathematics for construction, blueprint reading, financial literacy, history of construction, green construction and technology, and how to interview effectively. Students will take an initial course to gain insight and foundational knowledge about multiple trades.  All pathway instruction will be offered through hands-on, experiential, and project-based lessons.  Graduates will be college and career ready, with a solid foundation for future employment in the building, construction, and trades industry.
