Coming to University requires a different way of working and we will support you to develop the skills needed. It is autonomous or self managed learning which is about you taking control over your learning. You will have a mixture of activities within modules to engage with and you will be encouraged to share your experiences.
You will an academic advisor who alongside the workbased coach and your workbased mentor will help you to bring your learning together. So that your work and learning together ensure you are ready for the End Point Assessment at the end of your training.
You will have accessed the reading list in a previous tab. This will help you get a feel for what a reading list might be like at university. Each module will have its own reading list. Please don't get bogged down with text books at the moment but if you have time there are two things to do:
1: Read some other personal narratives of illness (click the stories tab at the top) to help you to see the person rather than the condition. Also see items included in the reading list.
2: Find a good study skills book and think about your strengths and development needs in terms of academic work.
You will be introduced to reflection which is a skill you will develop over the three years.
We use a virtual learning environment called blackboard which supports each module. It is through this that you will submit your assignments on line. There are apps you can get that allow you to have access to this on mobile devices.
We use .mp4 for screencasts.
Adobe reader is useful as many documents are in portable digital format (PDF)-it is free to download.
Most of the teaching material is in Microsoft and have .doc or .docx format or powerpoint -ppt. You can download Office365 as a learner via this link
We make extensive use of Google drive, google docs, google slides, google community and a range of other google apps and facilities. You will be accessing these via your university email and have unlimited storage through this. It is useful to explore this, particularly how to collaborate in this.
Pebble pad is an online learning platform which we will be using throughout the course. You will get an account as part of your studies, but you are advised to explore their information before you arrive. There are university support pages for pebblepad that are also useful to have access to: Technology Enhanced Learning Pebblepad page
Maytass is a specific platform for the apprenticeship you will be introduced to.
For attendance monitoring we will use an app called 'study goal' you can download this for all types of modern phones via their app stores.
