Prior to your studies you can help us by being prepared for the requirements below.
Click on the heading and you are taken to a resource specifically designed to help you get started on your apprenticeship journey with us.
Please make sure you complete the following activities outlined on this resource:
Review the skills scan with your work-based mentor - in preparation for the first progress review with the work-based learning coach.
Have a look at the Training Plan (toolkit) and draft this, taking special consideration on how the study day at work will be implemented and what opportunities you have to demonstrate the development of your Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (or KSB's as set out on the apprenticeship standard -these are the same as those on the skills scan you have completed).
Experience tells us you will really be able to demonstrate this impact after you have completed level 4 study. So please do not worry too much about this yet.
Please do NOT think you need to start a project - most of this is part of modules you will study with us.
Complete the transition to higher education activities outlined - much of this is outlined in other places in this website as well.
Look out for an email about 3 weeks before you arrive, which will tell you what to do. If you don’t receive an email, contact webenrolhelp@shu.ac.uk. You’ll need to print out your pre-enrolment summary and bring it with you on the first day.
You should be invited to complete the DBS check - which we need for placement purposes. You are strongly recommended to register with the update service as it is either you or your employer (depending on your individual contract) who is responsible for this. You do need to show us your proof.
You will need to complete a health check with us to ensure you are fit and healthy and are able to complete the programme.
Your employer is responsible to ensure you have the relevant vaccinations according to the Department of Health green book chapter 12 to be able to go on placement. The university needs evidence of your immunity. For some of you, this can be a problem and it is a good idea to start this conversation early with your employer.
More information on this will follow in the near future, please check back in a few weeks (12 November 2020)
Please take some time to complete this as it will give you useful insight into what your strengths and weaknesses are in using different types of digital platforms. There is more information under the university information pages about the actual platforms you will use.
You are strongly recommended to explore this area of the universities skills centre. This allows you to assess yourself on the academic skills you have and what you can do to (futher) develop this. Please make sure you set aside about 60min to complete this, which can be done in 4 sections.
You will of course need a uniform and your employer should know how this is to be organised. We recommend at least 2 pairs of trousers and three to five tops.
