Yorkshire is a large county with many famous Olympic names. Within that, Sheffield is an amazing city with lots to do. It is a great place to live and study. We are including a few suggestions to get you started but it is just a taster.
We have a range of fantastic parks Endcliffe Park and the Botanical Gardens are near to university and from Endcliffe park you can walk to Forge Dam. If you like to get out and about to can get buses and trains out to the peak district. You can even go swimming in Hathersage open air pool or take a walk to Padley Gorge. Many of the towns in the peak district are worth a visit eg Edale, Castleton, Hope.
Also, the Festival of the Mind, a collaboration that brings research to life- keep it on your radar as 2020 is the next festival
If the cinema is your thing, we have The Showroom, The Curzon as well as the usual you can find in town eg Odeon, or hop on a tram to Cineworld or Meadowhall. Sharrow Reels offer cheap film nights monthly with drink and a cake included in the price!
if you like the theatre we have the Crucible and Lyceum in the middle of town with a small Library theatre under the Graves Library. The Lantern is a small community theatre company in Nether Edge and is well worth a visit. You might want to visit Theatre Delicatessen which sounds fabulous. Check out the cultural quarter as well. Off the Shelf Festival of Words in the Autumn has some interesting events. If you like art, the Art house is recommended and the Purple Cats community choir is popular
If you are a foodie there are lots of places to go and lots of choice. Street food can be had at the Peddlers Night market at Kelham Island, which is known for its real ale or there is the Street Food Chef. The Moor Market in town has lots of choice of food outlets and food stalls. Make No Bones is a recommended vegetarian and vegan café. There are more cafes and retro finds in the antiques quarter -you will soon find a favourite.
We are famous for Henderson's relish and several other well known items you find on your shelves and in your cupboards.
Sheffield has a long history of growing musical talent and many of you will know some of the famous names You can find most genres of music around and the sheffield gig guide can give you loads of information. We even have a Folk train to Edale from Sheffield Station! Keep your eyes peeled for events. If you are in Sheffield over the summer, there is always the famous Tramlines Festival
